This is no dream ... home for me is actually a true-blue tropical paradise - Malaysia, situated in the heart of Southeast Asia just north of the Equator.
Paradise does not even begin to describe the many wonders of this amazing country. The word conjures up images of sand, sea and sun, but Malaysia offers much, much more than that.
Hill, island and beach resorts, and even cosmopolitan shopping areas ... they can all be found in Malaysia.
Malaysia is also a melting pot of diverse ethnic groups, the main ones being the Malays, Chinese, and Indians. This diversity has led to interesting choices in culture, traditions, and especially food!
My own little space in Malaysia is located in Petaling Jaya. Once a satellite town of Kuala Lumpur, the capital city, and not a desired neighbourhood because of its many factories and distance from KL, PJ has grown to become a centre in its own right.
For many years, home was on the top floor of this double-storey shophouse located in the infamous Chow Kit area which is almost in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. The family's Chinese herbal business (Chee Sze Choon Medicine Shop) was located on the ground floor, which meant my father did not face traffic jams going to work everyday!
Since he retired, we've lived in two other homes. The present home, a double-storey terrace house in the neighbourhood of Bandar Utama, is the second, and hopefully as permanent as, if not more than, the shophouse (30+ years in that home).
